Exercise 2: Expressive Lighting

Chiaroscuro in art is characterized by strong contrasts between light and dark, usually bold contrasts affecting a whole composition. It is also a technical term used by artists and art historians for using contrasts of light to achieve a sense of volume in modeling three-dimensional objects such as the human body.

Chapter 3: Lighting Director

I strongly agree with the LD because fast fall-off lighting is used most for emphasis. If the model had wrinkles and blemishes the slow fall-off lighting would be more appropriate because this technique is used to hide certain things. Fast fall-off lighting is used to accentuate features or for dramatization of objects.

The image Bank I chose was Walker Evans. I chose this image bank beacuse his pictures seemed very interesting. I think most of his pictures were related to the time of the great depression. I admire the way he captured the true emotion of the situation.
